Brownlow Gift

Leroy Brownlow never intended to start a publishing or gift company. He was a minister in Fort Worth, TX who would visit members of his church in the hospital. Out of these visits came a desire to bring a gift that would last much longer than flowers and give hope and inspiration long after the flowers were gone. In 1959 Leroy wrote and self-published one of the first gift books, titled “Flowers That Never Fade”. With an encouraging and inspirational message on the inside and beautiful artwork throughout, this new style of book became very popular. During the first year, Leroy gave the book away to people he visited in the hospital, but it soon attracted the attention of local bookstore owners who asked to buy the book for re-sale. Fifteen years later, Leroy’s son Paul, left his position as a university professor and the two began to work full-time in the emerging publishing business. The business grew steadily as they sold more gift books to an expanding list of bookstores and gift shops. The business transitioned from a publishing company into a hybrid book and gift company in the late 1980’s when Paul’s wife Carol suggested they incorporate beautiful Victorian art and design into their products and packaging. Soon they added a variety of journals, notepads and gourmet drink mixes to the product line. During the late 1990’s into the early 2000’s the product line changed again to focus more on popular licensed art properties that customers asked for. At the present time, Brownlow still has popular gifts in the Baby, Inspirational, Fashion Accessory and Paper categories, but is becoming more well known for functional and giftable Kitchen Gifts. Although Leroy passed away in 2002, his grandsons John Paul and Andrew had already joined Paul in the family business to continue making gift products that inspire people and help them connect with the people they love.
