Soruka Bags—Ecological Fashion

It is estimated that 60% of all leather globally produced, ends up as scraps destined for landfills. To battle this enormous problem, Soruka uses the otherwise unused scraps to create handbags & accessories. The result is a collection of beautiful, one-of-a-kind, handcrafted pieces made in an ecologically responsible way, using high quality leather.

Soruka’s mission is to create beautiful, timeless pieces, while moving the fashion industry toward a more sustainable future where success is measured by more than just profit margin.  Their goal is to be a zero-waste company.  The company’s belief is that conscious fashion is not only possible, but necessary.

Using recycled material reduces the waste and pollution that comes with conventional manufacturing.   It extends the lifespan of materials & goods we consume and minimizes the flow into landfills.   In addition, little to no machinery is used in the manufacturing process, keeping the energy consumption low.

Soruka products are handcrafted in India.  The company has a deep respect for the culture of the artisans, and they are committed to fair trade as a strategy for poverty elevation and sustainable development.  Their goal is to create opportunities for artisans who have been economically disadvantaged by the conventional system.  They work closely with small, independent artisans to help grow their business and production capabilities.  These partnerships are the best method of job creation in low-income environments and a way to preserve generational craftsmanship.  Each artisan is a trained adult who receives more than fair trade wages.

Each piece of the Soruka collection is made with integrity by artisans using traditional techniques that showcase their expertise and craftsmanship.  With great effort, their artisans hand select scraps in the right shape & color to transform waste into a unique piece of art.  The collections are designed with classic style that will far outlive the trends of the season.
